Kate
Frost was born in Bristol in 1977. She grew up in a Victorian
terraced house in Horfield with her Mum and Dad and younger
brother, Thomas. At seven-years-old two major things happened:
the first was open heart surgery at the BRI to fix a hole in
her heart; the second was the home tutor Kate had following
the operation, taught her how to write stories. Kate's first
novel was a time travel adventure set during the Great Fire
of London called London's Burning.
In
1995 Kate moved to Aberystwyth to study BA Hons Drama, where
she spent three very happy, drunken, yet productive years within
the Department of Theatre, Film and Televison Studies. Kate
played King Charles II in an all female production of Stephen
Jeffrey's The Libertine; Frida Kahlo
in Greg Cullen's Frida and Diego and
Angustias in Federico Garcia Lorca's The House of
Bernarda Alba.
After graduating, Kate spent a year going to auditions but became
disillusioned with acting and so started writing again. In December
1999, a year and a half after leaving Aberystwyth, Kate had
her first article, See You Next Year
published in small press magazine, Acorn.
More followed, with short stories being published in QWF,
Scriptor-4, The
London Magazine and Peninsular.
New
Welsh Review and Chapter &
Verse commissioned Kate to write various articles
on subjects such as the National Youth Theatre of Wales and
William Makepeace Thackeray. In 2003, Kate took part in bestselling
author, Kate Mosse's Labyrinth
Baton Stories Competition and was one of the winners. An early
draft of The Butterfly Storm was longlisted
for the Yeovil Prize 2005.
During
this time Kate had various jobs; she unintentionally worked
her way in to the management team at Warner Village Cinema but
quit after three years to concentrate on her writing. She did
odd jobs after that, working as a Virgin Vie Consultant, as
a sales assistant at Waterstones and now works for NHS Direct
as a Health Advisor. Kate also works as a Supporting Artist
for Mad
Dog Casting and has appeared in Vanity
Fair, King
Arthur and The
Young Visitersand Casualty for
the BBC .
Last
year Kate graduated from Bath Spa University with a MA in Creative
Writing. The Butterfly Storm is the
result of that year.
